Web address redirection is used when internet traffic for a URL cannot be sent directly to a website, or a specific page on a website. For example:
- When a URL needs to send traffic to a website not controlled by the university;
- When a URL is being phased out and traffic must flow to the website’s new URL;
- When traffic must flow to a specific subdirectory on a static website.
In these scenarios, web addresses are redirected using Amazon Web Services. This service is available at $2.00 per month per redirect target (i.e. the specific destination the traffic is sent to). Each destination having traffic sent to it requires a separate AWS charge. Request more information.
