Faculty Website Terms of Use
Updated: September 2025
Overview of Service
Faculty website hosting on Google Sites is administered, maintained and provided by the Digital Service department within Mizzou Marketing & Communications. Faculty websites are available on Google Sites at no charge under the Google Workspace for Education contract. The following sections detail responsibilities of Digital Service and Faculty website owners.
Exceptions
Google accounts are not available to users with “@health.missouri.edu” as their primary email address. Faculty with these email addresses usually have primary appointments at MU HealthCare, School of Medicine or College of Health Sciences. Due to security requirements, faculty with these accounts are not granted access to Google applications, including Google Sites.
Responsibilities of Digital Service
ADMINISTRATION – Digital Service administers University of Missouri websites. Administration includes creation of Google Sites, templates, assigning rights to faculty, and ensuring website addresses (URLs) are configured correctly. Additionally, all Google Sites are added to the university’s automated accessibility checker.
GOOGLE SITES SUPPORT – Digital Service support for Google Sites includes the following: verify websites comply with campus branding and identity standards, verify compliance with campus digital accessibility policies and standards, troubleshoot and resolve issues, ensure faculty can authenticate and update content, and other tasks as required.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT– Digital Service does not update or in any way manage content on faculty websites.
DOCUMENTATION – Digital Service provides documentation on getting started and maintaining faculty websites on Google Sites.
Faculty Responsibilities
TEMPLATES/BRANDING – All Google Sites websites are created using a default template that includes a University of Missouri Header area with the MU stacked logo, a black and gold color scheme that complies with Mizzou branded website colors and a default website footer. By making use of this service, faculty agree to not change these elements of their websites. Failure to maintain compliance with the University branding standards for websites may result in the website being unpublished (removed from the Internet).
CONTENT MANAGEMENT – Faculty are responsible for adding their own content, media and other information to their websites.
ACCESSIBILITY – The University of Missouri is required to follow federal accessibility law for all digital content by April, 2026. Faculty are required to be trained on using the university’s web accessibility reporting tools and address any accessibility issues on their websites in a timely manner. Failure to address accessibility issues will result in websites being removed from the Internet.
COST - Website accounts are provided at no charge for faculty and as such are not eligible for support beyond what is outlined above.
